In lieu of contributions to the congregation’s Compassionate Fund, which, after disbursements, has a good balance because of the generosity of the congregation, donations will be received to help people in our community through the Wilmot Family Resource Centre.

Oct 17 (Sat.) - 3rd Annual Empty Bowls for Haiti at The Healing Barn near St. Agatha. Nov. 8 (Sun.) - Interchurch rally, Building Bridges, Not Walls, with Bishara Awad, President of Bethlehem Bible College and the Inshallah Choir of Waterloo Lutheran Seminary at Rockway Mennonite Collegiate. Notices

1.       Young adults are looking for copies of the book Mere Christianity by C.S. Lewis. If you have a copy of the book and you are willing to lend it to a young adult for the next couple of months, please contact Brent Steinmann or Kevin Gingerich.

2.     MennoHomes is building eight affordable rental units in Wellesley for large low-income families. On the Labour Day weekend volunteers from Old Colony Mennonite Churches held a "barnraising blitz." They framed, roofed and nearly shingled both buildings. Needed now are general laborers (with hard hats, safety boots, tape measures, nail pouches and hammers); also painters needed by mid-October.  Contact Murray Leis, 519.656.3083, leisbellnet.ca.

 

3.     Articles for the Communicator are due next Sunday, October 11th . You can put them in the “Communicator” mailbox or email them to Janessa Otto at janessaottohotmail.com.

 

4.     Service trip opportunity : Beginning October 5, Mennonite Disaster Service is booking volunteer groups for Jan. - March 2010, mostly for rebuilding in hurricane stricken Gulf States. We will book March Break week, March 15-19, for a group from this congregation.  In   order to know approximate numbers, please contact Steve Drudge if you are interested. No firm commitment, just a "likely" or "seriously considering" is OK at this point. (If there is sufficient interest, we might also book a week during the 3rd or 4th week in April, but MDS does not take bookings for April until at least November. Let Steve know if you are interested.)

 

5.     The Alzheimer Society of Kitchener-Waterloo presents a four week education series designed for family and friends of individuals with Alzheimer’s Disease and related dementias. All sessions are from 10 - 11:30 a.m. on Mondays from Oct. 26th to Nov. 16th. Meeting at Tri-County Mennonite Homes office, 224 Hamilton Rd. Registration required - call the Family Services Coordinator at 519.742.1422.

 

6.   Dead Sea Scrolls are coming to the Royal Ontario Museum, Toronto, Oct. 10 - 18.  Two opportunities to see them with a group and Bible instructor are: Fri., Oct. 16 with Derek Suderman, Old Testament   professor, Conrad Grebel University College.  Information and registration: 1.800.206.9356.  Sat., Oct 17 with Precept Ministries. 7.   Working with the local Mennonite church and other trusted partners, Mennonite Central Committee is meeting human needs following the devastation of recent earthquakes in Indonesia and Typhoon  Ketsana in the Philippines and Vietnam. MCC has committed an initial $100,000 USD. Gifts for “Asia Disasters” can be made at an MCC office; at mcc.org/donate; or 1.800.313.6226.

·        Congratulations and God’s blessings to Pat Wagler as she is installed as Associate Pastor at Tavistock Mennonite Church this morning. Pastor Ilene is preaching in that service.

·        Congratulations and God’s blessings to Jackie & Sam Fackoury who celebrated their 25th Wedding Anniversary this past week, Tuesday, September 29th, and to Esther & Anson Kennel who will be celebrating their 59th Wedding Anniversary on Wednesday, October 7th.
