7 p.m. - Volunteers needed!  Meet at the church and get your exercise while you distribute Carnival invitations in Baden.

7 p.m. - Meeting for Toddler and Preschool Teachers downstairs.

8:30 a.m. - Noon - Vision Focus Team Retreat at Gladys Bender’s home.

3:30 p.m. - Community Carnival at the church. Lots of games, food and fun. At 5:00 there will be a bbq served in the fellowship hall. Those with last names beginning A-M, please bring salads, N-Z desserts. Bring enough for guests. Volunteers needed - sign the sheet on the table by the mailboxes or call Cliff Kennel. Invitation cards to share with neighbours and friends are available on the table.

 

1-8 p.m. - All adults in the 20-30ish demographic are invited to a Learn to Can session at Floradale Mennonite Church. For a cost of $20, each participant will receive 10 jars of various canned foods, a BBQ and corn roast supper, as well as hands-on instructions from veteran canners.  First come, first served basis. 4:30-7 p.m. - Gospel Echoes Team Chicken BBQ fundraiser in Millbank. Pick up a flyer from the table in the hallway.

9:45 - A Fall worship series, Vital Spiritual Practices begins with "Prayer for boldness, not for protection" (Acts 4:23-31). Pastor Steve speaking. There will be a coin offering for Mennonite Central Committee school kits.

Christian Education (Sunday School) begins for ages 2 to 102 including classes for children, youth and young adults. Adult electives will include a Bible study on the Book of Revelation, a film festival of MCC videos, a study on health and our stewardship of it and a group for follow-up to Sunday morning worship services on Vital Spiritual Practices . Plan to come to one of these classes. Part-time involvement is also encouraged.

 

11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. - Aldaview Services’ Annual Pork Barbecue at the New Hamburg Community Centre, 251 Jacob Street.  Donations accepted at the door.

Sept. 21 (Mon.) 7 p.m. - The New Hamburg Thrift Centre invites volunteer wipe cutters and truck volunteers to an Appreciation Evening  at the Thrift Centre. Guest speaker: Jenn White, MCC Circle of Friends Project Manager. Others who have an interest in the work of the Thrift Centre are also welcome. Please let Mildred V. Roth, know by Tuesday, September 15th if you are interested in attending.

 

Sept. 21 (Mon.) 7:30 p.m . - Conrad Grebel University College and MCC Ontario invite you to hear Dr. Abuelaish, a Palestinian doctor who is committed to peace and hope and building bridges across barriers despite extreme personal loss, Theatre of the Arts, University of Waterloo. Free admission.

 

Sept. 22 (Tues.) 7:30 p.m. - Tri-County Mennonite Homes Annual General meeting at Shantz Mennonite Church. Theme: “Promoting  Communities of Wellness”.

 

Sept. 26 (Sat.) 9 a.m. - Saturday Morning Coffee Break for women of all ages. Guest speaker: Karen Buhr, “Threads of Hope”.   A $5 donation is suggested. Tickets available from Sheryl Crabbe, Shirley Dunford, Christine Helmuth, Eilene Helmuth, Barb Schumm or Darlene Gingerich.  

 

Sept. 27 (Sun.) - The Peace and Justice Committee has organized a Getting To Know Our Jamaican Neighbours evening. We will be hosting the Jamaican Farm Workers who are currently employed at the Pfenning Farm. The evening will include a meal, music, table games and storytelling. Donations will be invited to cover the meal costs. Register your intention to participate at the sign-in table in the hall.

 

Sept. 27 (Sun.) 2 p.m. - Ralph & Sue Weber will be showing pictures and sharing their experiences from their Mission Trip to Benin at Bloomingdale Mennonite Church. All are welcome! 

 

Sept. 28 (Mon.) - Fall Seniors’ Retreat at Hidden Acres. Theme: Mennonite Congregation Singing, Sources and Traditions of Past and Present. Brochures are on the small table in the hall by the mailboxes.

Oct. 2 (Fri.) - Tyler Scheerer’s Extravaganza - a fundraiser for his time with Youth With A Mission in Switzerland. $10 includes a dinner followed by a concert. For tickets see Tyler or one of his family members.

Personal Notes
  • Thank you to everyone who volunteered their time to lead Jr.Worship this summer. Your dedication to the Christian education of the children is appreciated.
  • Congratulations and God’s blessings to Leona & Walter Steinman who will be celebrating   their 63rd wedding anniversary on Monday, September 7th and to Irene Bender who will be celebrating her 86th birthday on Friday, September 11th.

 

Remember In Prayer This Week

      Philip and Julie Bender , Mennonite Church Canada Witness workers who have moved to Dazhou, in Sichuan, China, where they will continue to minister to students through English language teaching. They have spent the last five years at a university in Chongqing, China.

 

 

  Keira Fortin was treated for seven days for an e-coli infection and was able to come home on Wednesday, September 2nd.

 

 

  Albert Russon who is receiving care at Grand River Hospital.
